Every week is a unique week at Forget Me Notes and that’s been equally true for this week.
Monday began with some staff supervision and that is something I always find insightful. It is an environment where I learn from the experiences of other members of staff, a place where we can support each other and done well it can be a platform for even greater quality in our working together.
On Tuesday I had another highlight. As you know we have been delivering a project with Open Door called music for health and well-being. We are planning year three and we are looking for this to be an evaluation and research year. A friend of mine called Nick who I met more than ten years ago who has worked at one of Scotland’s top Universities as a professor is I hope going to work alongside us. We held a meeting with Nick, Simon, Lynette and Jonathon, I was so thrilled when the meeting was finished and as we spoke, I got a glimpse of what I have been hoping for ever since Forget Me Notes began. Our aim is to use the next eleven months to pull together a researched three-year paper, this will explain how music can change the way in which we support people through music day-to-day. I remember my friend Peter who lived in the Borders, he would say to me when asked how he was “I am changing the world one step at a time”. Well, this piece of work will help Forget Me Notes to change the world of social care and how music can transform a supportive environment.
On Thursday we had a meeting with those who have responsibility for Saughton Park. We have a vision of a cross-cultural music event in the park next summer. We sent an email explaining our idea to the council and they loved it. We want to create an event that celebrates different cultures using music. A bit like the words of the song “We are family I got all my sisters (brothers) with me”. Following our meeting we held our session in the park with fifty-three people. It was amazing!
Along with all this was the Music Memories sessions and All Singing and Dancing sessions that go to make up Forget Me Notes. It is weeks like this that gives me goosebumps to realise what we are building with the help of all those who use the service. We must always see it as an ever changing and evolving environment, because with every new person comes new experiences and new challenges to make Forget Me Notes the most person centred as it can possibly be.
Hope you have a great week!
