Another ,week and a great morning at St Brides on Monday. There are certain people who do solo spots at St Bride’s and it is always good to hear them whether they are singers or fiddle players.
On Tuesday a group of us went to Dynamic Earth for the Community Link Worker conference. I was lucky enough to go early and listen to a part of the conference. It allowed me to understand the context, before getting up and leading a twenty minute session of singing together. I am hoping that those Link Workers at the conference who work in Edinburgh will have taken part and then shared information with those they support. We look forward to seeing more people accessing the project. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the Hub with different organisations sharing information about their different services. I love the way we have different groups that people can access. One size does not fit all, however, that should not mean we are in competition with other services. We are all here for those we support and it is in that spirit we support each other.
On Thursday I met the new manager at Open Door. She comes from Newcastle originally and shows that lovely Newcastle welcome. I am hoping that we can work together to provide therapeutic opportunities for all who attend.
It is not often I get to go to All Singing and Dancing on a Friday but this week I did. What an amazing group of people expressing themselves with spirit and enthusiasm. I love seeing and hearing our group of musicians who support the people who attend so well, they provide an environment where people feel confident when they are vulnerable. A big thank you also goes to my friends at Positive Paths. What a great job they are doing, welcoming people and looking after the administration.
Friday afternoon saw Kenny and I at Eildon House. What a great group we had. There were young people with us from Fettes College who are volunteering which allowed us the opportunity to do some intergenerational learning. I found out the names of pop stars who I have never heard of and they heard songs and cultural behaviours that have long been forgotten. Care Homes are great places for social history, young people today will never know what a mangle is if they don’t visit the local care home.
Another great week sharing with people and their stories. I finished reading the autobiography of Kenny Dalglish this week. What a Man is Kenny? He supports so many people in ways that we would never know. I also watched Kevin Sinfield on the telly this morning doing yet another selfless act on behalf of his friend Rob Burrow and the MND community. Both these guys have received a knighthood for their work. I am sure that the treasures and memories they have stored in their heart, far out way the value of the knighthood. Amazing!
Have a great week.
