This is me back from our holiday in Crete. The weather was great, the food was brilliant and it was good to spend time with John and Elaine. I took badges with me for the Greek members of Forget Me Notes which was good.
Since being back, I have been at North Edinburgh Arts for the intergenerational Music and Movement group. It is going well, and the numbers are increasing week by week. We had excellent sessions at Open Door, Indoor Choir and Stenhouse on Thursday. One of our long-term members at Stenhouse is not so well now so I had the opportunity of dropping in to say hello and take a card and a plant from the group. So often it is the little things that are valued so much by people, and I was glad that we could send our best wishes and show how much we miss and value her.
On Friday we had a Trustee meeting which went well too. I had a chance to reflect with our trustees, and it was good to get perspective on what we are doing and how we are doing it. It is for this reason I am glad that on Monday we have a policy and procedures meeting. This is a new group of Elizabeth, Libby and myself and I hope another of our trustees. Having the opportunity to review those things that underpin the organisation is so good and so assuring from my perspective. It may sound strange but these foundation stones are the reason that we can do the important things like delivering cards and flowers with confidence.
Last week was finished off with a session at Eildon House. There is a lady there who was born in the East end of London and born in a pub (not even John can boast that). Each time we go we sing “Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner” and “London Bridge is Falling Down”. It’s then that she declares her undying love for Kenny and I and wants to run away with us. I mentioned the little things being important. I am not sure of all the memories of this person or where in her life the songs take her but I am sure because of the glow on her face that her responses are positive. It makes this job so worthwhile!
Have a great week.
